Stories from Spring Harvest
Week 1, Skegness 2008

God IS interested in YOU and the hours you work.

How have you seen God at work – what has been your experience?

First of all as I explained to you, I backslid from my faith but in 2003 after a term of depression I came back to the Lord. It was at that point I got back in touch with a colleague who had sent me an e-mail a couple of years before hand one and we started the Christian fellowship. There were three of us meeting once a week for prayer.

And then God lead you to another position…

Yeah – I was on shift for 20 years and part of that, I believe, was responsible for me falling into depression and also partly from the backsliding as well. Coz with the irregular hours I was working four weekends out of five and stuff like that. BUT as I say I had an 18-month period of rehabilitation after the depression where I was on ‘pays’ which was allowing us to meet and pray together. Then I was told by the company, after this when I came through the depression and got my faith back, that I was going to have to go back to my old job on shift. I asked the Lord and prayed about it, ‘Lord I’m willing is you want me back on shift I’ll go back on shift or if you want me back on days you’ll have to find a full time job for me’. I end back on shift for 2 months.

It was just before I went on holiday that I saw a job going through work that I knew nothing about – totally different filed and also coming off shift meant that I would drop about £6000 a year in wages. The amazing thing was that I put the application in and went on holiday to a Haven site at Skegness. It ended up that in the caravan next to me there was one of my bosses from a sister station in Hartlepool. I was able to tell him that I had applied for a job and he went through with me all the questions that would have been asked in an interview and stuff like that. I came back home that weekend and found there was a letter waiting for me to go in for an interview on the Tuesday. So I went in on Monday and spoke to some of the guys who work with planners

On the Tuesday I went for the interview and they took me up stairs. There’s a suite there where they do the interviews. Amazingly the interview was in the room where we meet as a Christian fellowship where we were praying for God’s will to be done. It was just amazing. It was during the interview that they told me the job was actually two steps up the ladder from me but to cut a long story short… I got the job.

I feel day to day I’m out of my depth, I’m meeting with managers… I left school with no qualifications basically, but a lot of the time I’m giving advise to managers on the nuclear power station.

Not long after, our church minister was on a Sabbatical for training for 3 months and we had different pastors coming in and one of the guys come in and through conversation it turns out that his brother–in-law is our station director which again God’s hand is obviously is in it.
