A New Year Message for 2017 from the TWUK Chair
I am writing to you, my team colleagues, to Christian Workplace Groups and other groups associated with Transform Work UK, and also to employers, to wish you a Happy New Year and a prosperous 2017.
Looking back over 2016, Transform Work UK has made significant and perhaps surprising strides forward. For that I express thanks to our Lord but also to our passionate and dedicated teams and to the employers that so often embrace not only what we do but what we are.
There is little doubt that we are pioneers in our sphere. That means there is no manual, and no road map, and there are many critical choices and decisions to be made; not everyone will understand or agree with what we try to do. We may not yet be perfected! The pioneer must be made of stern stuff but the prize is enormous – can we touch and change a thousand workplaces for the benefit of all and then push forward to influence countless thousands at home and abroad? I begin to believe more than ever that we can. Will you pioneer with us in 2017?
You may be already aware of the progress shared at our conference in October. Twenty-six Christian Workplace Groups have been added since July bringing our total to over 450; over half of our groups have received direct input from our Lead Ambassadors in the period; and dozens of groups have interacted with their management team members especially over the Christmas season. Transform Work UK began as a creature of the equality and diversity agenda. But in the last six months, several employers have now turned to us to help them in devising an equitable policy for diversity. In diverse ways, the nature of the game is changing; our stature and standing is increasing. We seek no praise, no name for ourselves: only to serve our employers in an acceptable and meaningful way. We are uniquely placed to do so, especially in the area of faith at work.
You may like to know that we have alighted on a theme for the immediate future: HERE FOR YOU! This exemplifies that our groups exist not primarily for their own benefit, but to reach out to their colleagues, co-workers and employing organisations - listening, praying, supporting – ways that help sustain positive and productive workforces. Our groups need time and encouragement to reach a point where they can be visible, representative and generally welcome and effective. There is no rush. There is no standard pattern. But I am convinced that with creative faith and an honest partnership with an employer, Christian Workplace Groups - and our allied Professional Groups - can help transform the workplaces of this nation.
May I conclude with a prayer for you which comes directly from the New Testament: “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Warm greetings to you all. Please feel free to contact me on 07940 842 685.
God bless you, your family and your organisation through 2017
