Carols in the Chamber 2015: Harrow Christian Staff Group

Red bow

Christians in Discussion (CID), the Christian group at Harrow Council, north-west London, arranged a carol service in the council chamber on 14 December 2015.

M
any people were involved and helped to make the event a success: poster designer, readers, the Mayor’s chaplain, singers, pianist, projectionist, stewards and many who helped with preparation and clearing up and inviting people to fill the council chamber. The singing groups included 'More than Just a Choir', 'Ellensi' - a staff trio - and the Harrow Gospel Choir. Over 100 people came, a mixture of Christians, non-Christians, staff and public. Representatives from Healing on the Streets and Street Pastors worked together to offer personal prayer support afterwards. A representative from Christians Against Poverty was also available. All three organisations introduced themselves during the service. The council kindly assisted with the cost of refreshments, and £290 was collected for the Mayor’s charities.

Here are some of the comments received in feedback:

“Thanks for inviting me - it was another very successful and enjoyable event. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.”

“I especially liked the easy read version of the readings, very powerful and inclusive”

“Thank you for inviting me to take part in the excellent Carol Service. Great numbers and a lovely atmosphere in the Council Chamber.”

Once again, the Christian group at Harrow Council have successfully brought many people together to put on a high quality Christmas event. The gathering proclaimed the birth of Jesus in a way which supported the council and was a positive influence in the borough.
