IMG4428TWUK at Devoted 2015

TWUK have just enjoyed a really productive August Bank Holiday weekend at 'Devoted' on the Newark Showground. Devoted is a festival arranged by the Christ Central Churches sphere of New Frontiers, and led by Jeremy Simpkins.

TWUK have had some contacts with Christ Central Churches over the last year, which culminated in us being asked to attend and present at the event. In the mornings, after a family worship time, the festival divided into 4 seminar tracks or 'Life Zones'. TWUK were asked to speak at the Business and Leadership LifeZone, and also to lead a seminar at the Public Services LifeZone. We were also able to have a stand in the exhibition area.

Jeff, Michael, Trevor and Jayne travelled to Devoted. On the first day, Jeff IMG4429spoke briefly at the Business and Leadership LifeZone, reminding more than 200 or so people who attended how God calls us to live for Him in the workplace and of how Christians coming together in workplace groups can release the power of God to transform their organisations. Jeff and Trevor then led the final session of the Public Services LifeZone. Richard Quayle had spoken at the first two sessions about how a right perspective on our relationship with God can transform our individual attitudes to our work and our colleagues.  Trevor followed on from this, telling of what Christian Workplace Groups are doing around the country and showing people how they too can start a group in their workplace.

We had many good conversations at the stand and after the seminars. Many people told of how they felt God had spoken to them and had encouraged them to consider how they could be an influence for Him at their workplaces. Some had felt inspired to seek out other Christians for the first time with a view to forming a CWG. See some video testimonies on this page.

In the seminars, plenty of time was set aside to hear from God, and a number of people brought words of encouragement and prayed prophetically into peoples’ lives. Here are some examples:

  • We are like sugar - natural not synthetic - in the way we can influence our workplaces for good and for God
  • 'Out of the ashes we rise' - we may feel timid but we will rise and have a glorious impact forHim!
  • Doors are open to us already!
  • We are 'switching the lights back on' in the workplace
  • We don't need to 'ram raid'; we have the Holy Spirit within us and He can do all things
  • In many ways people can't see the 'wood for the trees' at the moment (particularly in economics and finance). God is clearing the trees so that Christians can be seen
  • We go forward as partners with God – roped together with him. He knows where we're going. Don't worry - he's got us should we fall!

He is King! It was a really positive and productive time, and so good to meet and be able to encourage Christians in the workplace to build Christian Workplace Groups.
