"true atheism requires a lifetime of effort" - colleagues on a journey of faith and truth
Ros (15/10/2009 17:11)
Ros,
I just thought I'd bring you up to date. After just over a month as an atheist it feels very lonely and everything I do references back to my former faith. I recently listened to an OU podcast on science and intelligent design (a phrase I hate) and I have come to the conclusion that I need something else.
I can square total acceptance of evolution with faith in a higher power but I haven't moved that far yet. I am encouraged by a phrase by Kierkergaard, a Christian philosopher, which states that "true atheism requires a lifetime of effort". Even Sartre said that "it is difficult to make the leap that would embrace the brute fact of existence".
I think it is easier to make a leap of faith than a leap into atheism – sounds like a cop out but I'm working on it.
Thanks for listening
Best regards
M

In Sept 09 M asked me to take him off the databse having come to the conclusion that there can't be a God. Today he's back in touch. We've been praying for M and I'm wondering if you have any helpful insights to help a colleague in Local Govt find his feet on The 'Rock'?
