This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 1 John 4:9
|
As Christmas gets closer, we are reminded just how committed and courageous our God is.
Committed in that He gave up His ‘everything’ by sending His Son, as anyone who has a child knows from personal experience, and courageous in that He could easily have avoided the pain by wiping us all out and starting again. Commitment and courage – words that seem inadequate to describe God’s act of Love that transformed the world.
If only we could exhibit that same kind of commitment and courage in the places where we work, I’m sure we would see a similar transformation in our nation. It starts by realizing that our workplace is the mission field where God has placed us, and that our primary role is to demonstrate God’s love by supporting and encouraging our work colleagues – both staff and management.
By doing this we become, in the words of Paul’s message to Titus (2:9-10) “… loyal workers, a bonus to [our] masters …. [our] good character will shine through [our] actions, adding luster to the teaching of our Saviour God.”
Operation Christmas Child In the last Newsletter, we promoted the work of Operation Christmas Child – a way in which you can get your work colleagues involved in helping disadvantaged children. This involves packing a shoe box full of Christmas presents and sending it to OCC. As of now, they can no longer accept shoe boxes sent to them, but you can still pack a shoe box ‘on-line. Visit www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk/shoeboxworld for more information.
Temptation in the Workplace We have all wrestled with temptation of different sorts – financial, sexual, the temptation to abuse power, temptation to deceive, etc. Now the BBC wants to explore the subject and are looking for possible interviewees who have some sort of life experience which will help them to explore the subtleties of temptation. Have you got a story? If so, let us know and we will pass your details on. Furthermore, we would love to share your story as an encouragement to our newsletter readers.
Faith in the workplace Dr Chris Hewson of Manchester University is currently undertaking a three year project on multi-faith spaces (www.manchester.ac.uk/mfs). He is particularly interested in hearing about examples within the workplace - particularly spaces that are genuinely multi-faith, as opposed to being Muslim prayer rooms (valuable though these facilities are).
If you can help out then email him at chris.hewson@manchester.ac.uk
Tom Stevens Tom, as many of you are aware, is the managing director of Transform Work UK. He has been seriously ill for a few months, and will soon be going into hospital for heart surgery. Thank you for your prayers for him and his family during this trying time - please continue with us in prayer that the operation will be a great success and he will be back with us soon.
Have a great week,
The Transform Work Team
