Rekindling the flame
The summer and associated holidays are just about over, and most people are now looking forward to the next 'big' event in the calendar. But before Christmas, we have to get through the political party conference season, where media attention fills our newspapers with all the latest comment about what the government should and should not do.
Over the next few weeks, the major political parties will be meeting with their supporters to rekindle the flame of 'the faithful', to help energise them into action so that their message gets out with renewed enthusiasm.
As a Christian organisation we don't believe that any one political party is the answer to the problems our country faces, but we do believe that Christians within those parties can be used mightily by God to help bring His Kingdom on earth.
With this in mind I decided to look at the websites of the main political parties to see where they stood on the Christian faith and its impact in the workplace.
I must admit I was pleased at what I came across. Each of the parties have committed Christians that work as a group in influencing policy and that are prepared to speak out on the benefits that the Christian faith can have on society. I encourage you to read them and to pray for our Christian brothers and sisters as they seek God's wisdom in their daily lives.
But also obvious on those web sites were people who are passionate about the secular agenda and who are keen to pass legislation that will eradicate any form of faith in our political, social and work life.
Which brings us to a key question: Is there room for faith at the place where we work? Do our employers, managers and work colleagues appreciate the values that we as Christians bring? If the answer is 'no' then maybe it says something about us personally.
It can be hard to make a real impact on the workplace as individuals, but as a group there's no saying what we can achieve. See the article below on 'Making a Christian Impact at Work' on what one group of Christians have achieved.
Like the political parties where conferences can help rally supporters and give them a direction, so it is with Christians. Over the next few months there are a number of conferences where Christians can get together and exchange ideas and learn from one another on how to make an impact at work
For a list of work-related conferences check out the Events > Conferences page of our web site and our events diary shown below. TWUK is also pleased to be working with New Community Church in Southampton on a conference to inspire Christians that will be held on 26th November. Select this link to find out more.
Do support these and other events as we seek to win the workplace for Christ.
Tom Stevens As some of you may know, our managing director, Tom Stevens was taken into hospital a few weeks ago with heart related problems. We are pleased to let you know that Tom is back at home, although he is waiting for further medical investigations to determine his treatment.
We thank God for the medical support and dedicated nursing profession we enjoy in this country. I'm sure you'll join with us in prayer for Tom's full and speedy recovery and that he will soon be back to the role he loves at Transform Work UK.
