Carol Service at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO)
The UK Hydrographic Office supports a selected charity (by vote) every year and there are various fund raising activities during the year.
Since 2007, the UKHO has raised over £43,000 for charities including: SURE (a local hospital charity), St Margaret's Hospice, Open Door (a charity for the homeless in Taunton) and, in 2010, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (for which £13000 was raised). This year it is back to the hospice movement, specifically the Children's Hospice South West.
Towards Christmas, UKHO Christian Fellowship organized a ‘Carol Service’ for all staff which included an offering for the selected charity.
We took the opportunity to open and close with prayer and had an invited Christian speaker give a short talk – this year the newly appointed lead for the Taunton Town Chaplaincy. He happens to be an ex-member of staff.
