Tell us who you are and where you work
Hi - I’m Naomi. I work and live in a boarding school in the South-West. And I think I’ve got some great opportunities to share my faith with my children particularly.
Easter has been a really good opportunity to teach RS lessons in particular. I have the opportunity to teach them about the cross and because it’s a private school we’ve got the freedom to say what we believe – we’re not restricted.
Also I'm able to share through the Christian Union meetings as well, being able to speak to my children openly and they can ask questions. I like to let them work it out for themselves; what they believe which is cool.
Are all your colleagues Christians, if not have you had times of discussion with them also?
I think it presents a really interesting challenge when you are with people an awful lot of the time – when you’re living with people as well as working with them. They’re seeing an awful lot of your life! When you’re standing up in front of the whole school and telling children about faith, Jesus, Christianity in assembly, your colleagues are listening as well.
I’ve also been able to pray for things; I’ve got a particular colleague I work very closely with – she’s not a Christian and she asked me to pray that we’d have good weather for our school trip, and then we did, and it was exactly the kind of weather she wanted – and she was like – ‘yeah you’ve done it’, and I said ‘no it’s not me – it’s God!’
It’s just those kinds of things, being able to talk on a personal level about what it means to know God, and how that impacts very ordinary things – like the weather.
Thanks
