Free Advent Calendars
CWG coordinators - you've seen this article before but just as a reminder.... Karen who organised this for the past 2 years at Motts says, "Fairtrade advent calendars, definitely worth putting on the website to encourage others, as advent is drawing closer! Best place to get the advent calendars is online via Ethical Superstore, they are the official direct outlet for Divine chocolate, who make the advent calendars. This year there's milk or dark chocolate to choose from. They work out at just under £3 each when bought in bulk and you should get free delivery for buying over £60." http://www.ethicalsuperstore.com/products/divine-chocolate/divine-chocolate-advent-calendar/

In 2007 and 2008 the Christian Fellowship at Mott MacDonald in Cambridge have given a chocolate advent calendar and a card, with a list of local carol services on it, to every bay in our office - 150 calendars in total! We managed to find some Fairtrade chocolate advent calendars with the nativity story behind each door.
We wanted to demonstrate God's generosity to us by doing something nice for people! One of us on each floor was responsible for distributing the calendars, so that we could give them to people personally. It is lots of fun giving people something for free especially when it involves chocolate and we have enjoyed seeing people searching for the right door to open, reading the next stage in the nativity story and then enjoying the chocolates. It's a wonderful, if a little strange, thing to hear your colleagues daily reading the nativity story!
We have had some great responses:
"What a great idea (these advent calendars) - I really do want to get to a Christmas carol service this year, I haven't been to one for ages."
"I am already planning to go to the carol service in my village - good to see listed here what is going on in the city."
"If you are singing in the City Church Carol service, maybe that's one I will avoid!"
"I'll try to come to your carol service on 21st December - where is it exactly?" (detailed map was provided)
"Oh, I didn't know you were a Christian, you have completely blown all my stereotypes out of the water!" |
